"Nowhere else on earth are such high and many volcanoes lined up. Nowhere else are so many fire mountains still active as along this 250 kilometer long stretch" Alexander von Humboldt.

Between the coast and the Amazon, the "Road of the Volcanoes" stretches over 300 km. There are a total of 60 volcanoes that line the Ecuadorian Andes from north to south.

The Road of Volcanoes is part of the "Pacific Ring of Fire" that stretches around the Pacific Ocean, from whose seabed rise 30,000 submarine volcanoes. Among them are: Antisana 5,753 m, Atacazo 4,463 m, Carihuairazo 5,018 m, Cayambe 5,796 m, Chimborazo 6,310 m, Corazón 4,790 m, Cotacachi 4,949 m, Cotopaxi 5. 897 m, Cuicocha 3,246 m, Altar 5,319 m, Illiniza 5,248 m, Imbabura 4,610 m, Pasochoa 4,199 m, Pichincha 4,794 m, Tungurahua 5,016 m.

Guagua Pichincha is a stratovolcano located only 13 kilometers west of Quito, the capital of Ecuador. The last volcanic activity took place in October 1999.

Mama Tungurahua is a highly active volcano in Ecuador. Since 1999, it has often offered magical nighttime displays of ash explosions and lava fountains. There are at least 17 known historical eruptions.

Cotopaxi is one of the most active volcanoes on Earth. Learn more about this in our next blog.

Ecuador a paradise for mountaineers!!!

Chimborazo is the highest mountain in Ecuador. It is 6310 meters high and has a diameter of 20 kilometers. Its summit is the point farthest from the center of the earth, and therefore closest to the sun.

Cayambe is the third highest peak in Ecuador and the only point on earth where snow can be found on the equator.
